Lucy Gonzales Parsons Apartments

Situated in the heart of Logan Square, Lucy Gonzalez Parsons Apartments provides high quality affordable rental housing, ensuring that long-time neighborhood residents can continue to call Logan Square home. Stormwater detention vaults were strategically located in the remediated areas of the site, with 36” of soil above to accommodate shade trees & gardens. Permeable pavers and 5,450 square feet of green roof (one with an amenity deck for the residents’ use) also mitigate stormwater, reducing the possibility of local flooding during large storms. At the main entrance, a welcoming accessible ramp with built-in planters & seat walls wraps around a community terrace for outdoor gatherings. A meandering, modern picket fence and low garden wall merges the angular geometry of the building with the residential character of neighboring single-family homes. The fence is wrapped around the building to maintain a ‘front door look’ for townhouse units accessed from the alley.  Aware of the health benefits of trees & access to nature in dense urban neighborhoods, the landscape architects took advantage of every opportunity to create lush and easily maintained garden spaces.
